Soil, compaction, and fertility

Known soil texture Heavy clay or loam with compaction usually creates a stronger equipment-based improvement opportunity than loose sand. Compaction concern This is your observed concern: hard ground, hoof traffic, equipment lanes, poor infiltration. Depth where soil probe reaches 300 PSIIf you use a soil probe or penetrometer, enter the depth in inches where resistance first reaches about 300 PSI. Grass roots often struggle to grow past that resistance level. A shallow 300 PSI depth, such as 3-6 inches, may indicate a compacted layer that could restrict root growth and water movement. A deeper reading, such as 10-12 inches or more, may mean compaction is less likely to be the main yield-limiting factor. Leave blank if you do not have a soil probe reading.

Why this matters: If roots meet heavy resistance at a shallow depth, they may stop growing deeper. RanchWorx blade-fracture aeration is intended to mellow/fracture compacted soil below the surface so roots can access more moisture and grow deeper where conditions allow.

Soil pHLow/high pH may limit forage response even if aeration helps the soil structure. Fertilizer program Used to separate a compaction/water problem from a fertility problem. Irrigation Irrigated ground can respond differently from dryland pasture.

Drought and lost production opportunity

Drought and moisture pressure can strongly affect forage response. Use what you know now; future versions may add automatic drought lookup by location.

Lost forage or grazing production from dry weather in last 12 months Used to understand missed hay production, reduced grazing days, or lower carrying capacity.
